Essex
Junction, Vt. ~ The
Dukes of Hazard blew out of the gates at the box
office with over $30,000,000 in ticket sales. While
the price tag was a little lower, it was also a
strong weekend for Team AMSOIL and their version
of the General Lee.
Autumn Woods Racing driver Jeff
Dedick powered the General Lee to another strong
showing at the Special Events Performance Series
in Essex Junction, Vt. After a weekend long battle,
Dedick left the Green Mountain State with a second
place, photo finish.
Meanwhile, Dedick's teammate, Chris Mosher, was
battling just behind the front-runners in the "00"
truck. Mosher brought the Toyota Tundra to a seventh
place finish on the weekend. Both trucks are in
the top five of the Special Events Series, which
will wrap up in late September in Indianapolis.
Top Ten's For "The Deuce"
Solon Springs, Wis. ~ Brady
Smith was extremely busy last weekend at events
in his home state of Wisconsin. The driver of the
AMSOIL #2 Monte Carlo was in action at the Cedar
Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis. Smith finished
fourth in his heat race and fourth in the dash event
in the preliminary action for the 'USA Nationals'
on Friday night. He earned a seventh place starting
spot in Saturday's $40,000 to win event. In the
60-lap, World of Outlaws Late Model Series feature,
the Deuce held his own and ran solidly in the top
10 for the majority of the event. Near the end,
tire selection hampered his efforts and he fell
back from the leaders, finishing in tenth.

"The Deuce" also competed
in the Cedar Lake Late Model division portion of
the weekend. In Friday's $5,000 to win 'Pepsi Cup'
event, Smith finished eighth in the final rundown.
Things were looking very promising on Saturday,
but the number 2 car hit the front stretch wall
in the dash event and broke a rear end. The team
could not get the Monte Carlo repaired in time and
Smith missed the call for the $5,000 to win feature
event.
His busy weekend concluded on Monday
evening at the Superior Speedway in Superior, Wis.
Smith finished fifth in his heat race, which was
good enough to earn him a spot in the $5,000 to
win, PolyDome WDRL Late Model Series-sanctioned
feature event. He improved several positions throughout
the course of the event to register a seventh place
finish at the ultra-fast oval in northern Wisconsin.
"Our weekend was up-and-down
at Cedar Lake," said Brady in a recent telephone
conversation. "We had a good car for the USA
Nationals, but just picked the wrong right rear
tire. We ran good early on, but faded in the last
ten laps or so. In the Pepsi Cup portion of the
weekend, our car was equally fast. We ran eighth
on Friday night and had a better car for Saturday.
I just hit the front stretch wall on the last lap
of the dash and the contact broke the rear end.
I was really disappointed because I think we could
have competed for the win that night."
The Brady Smith Racing team will
be in action at the Florence Speedway in Union,
KY in the annual 'North-South 100' this weekend,
starting Thursday, August 11. An open practice session
is on tap this Thursday evening, with qualifications
for the unsanctioned event taking place on Friday
night. Heat races, consolation events and the 100-lap,
$50,000 to win 'North-South 100' are slated to be
run on Saturday evening. This will be the first
time that the team has attempted to make the starting
field for the prestigious event.
